Learning of our Grandson's Mission Call
Although we weren't there in person, through technology, we were able to hear about where our grandson, Carter, will be serving his two-year Mormon mission.
We were all so thrilled to learn that Carter has been called to serve in the Scotland/Ireland Mission. He will enter the Missionary Training Center in England on July 27th and will be serving for two-years. So excited for him and his family!
Attending Ethan's Ballgames
When our kids were young, we loved going to all the
activities they were involved in. We just wish we could magically
transport ourselves to watch all of the grandkids wherever they live!
Since we live so close to Kent and Natalie, we try to attend as many of Ethan and Ella's activities as possible. Sometimes, we get to stop at fun places and grab a bite to eat. This is a fun old-fashioned (George and my era!) McDonald's we stopped in before Ethan's basketball game.
Saturday was a perfect day--we got to watch Ethan play a soccer game . . . then we left from there and went to two basketball games that he played! Loved it!
Ethan's dad has been his coach since he was five years old! Although he, also, plays on other teams, his dad, Kent, has given him so much training and fundamentals that he learned from his dad as his coach while playing all through his childhood and even on his high school basketball team.
And this is what happens when you ask a kid who is an athlete through and through to mow the lawn! He has great hopes for BYU this year!
Enjoying Ethan and Ella's Piano Recital
I love when my children and grandchildren are involved in music! Both Ethan and Ella are taking piano lessons and are doing so well. Great job both of you! Several other of our grandchildren are taking music lessons--fantastic! (We may have gone for ice cream treats afterwards for rewards for Ethan and Ella--or was it for Grandpa George? Hah!)
We knew we would be gone for Ella's competition in Seattle, so we were very happy that we got to watch all of her dance numbers at the All-Star Dance team program. When she performed her solo number at competition, Ella ended up placing as a finalist and is eligible to go the Nashville for the top numbers to compete there.
Way to go, Ella!
We were thrilled to be in attendance when Kent was set apart as the First Counselor in the Spanish Branch Presidency for our church. Kent served two years in Guatemala as a Mormon missionary beginning when he was 19 years old. Through the years, he has remained proficient in the Spanish language as his dental practice includes a great majority of patients who speak Spanish. In addition, he has a great love for the Spanish people.
Kent, Natalie, Ethan, and Ella will be a great addition to the Spanish Branch.
One of their first activities that the Branch Presidency planned and put on was a Latino Night--complete with a Mariachi band that played while everyone ate delicious Mexican food. (They had just finished playing by the time we got there, so no pic!)
After dinner, they had a wonderful program with Kent as the Master of Ceremonies. It included dancing and singing to traditional Latino music.
Everyone got to clap along to the "Mexican Hat Dance."
Four Latino women did a beautiful scarf dance.
A group of young ladies in the ward and branch danced. It was very nicely done!
Our grand daughter, Ella (center) with two of her friends who participated in the dance.
There were lovely displays in the back highlighting many Latino countries.
This was such a beautiful evening of food, fun, and friendship!
Helping Kent and Natalie Get Ready for their New Farm Life
Meet Vader--one of two horses that Kent and Natalie purchased for their farm. Vader is a little bossy and definitely the most aggressive horse. George always loves to make friends with the animals!
Ella is definitely the horse lover in the family. She has been taking lessons since she was just a little girl. Now, she has a horse of her own! Meet Ember! This is the beautiful barn that has been added to Kent and Natalie's property. (Later I'll post how beautifully Natalie painted it!)
Ella and Ember
Ethan took over Vader as "his" horse, although he doesn't have much time to her ride her.
So, in helping Kent and Natalie get the farm ready, we have visited more farm and yard stores in the last month than we probably ever have in the last forty years! But, along with the work, we are definitely having a great time.

We loved seeing all the containers of the new baby chicks. There was every color and variety!
These little chicks reminded me of watching my Grandmother Rigby bringing home a great big box of little chicks each year when I was growing up.
Kent and Natalie will have to build a chicken coop first, but perhaps someday they will get some baby chicks, too!
Natalie and I really smiled when George picked up one little bully chick and tried to talk some sense into him! When he put that little chick back in the container, that little chick went right back trying to take the food from all the other chicks he was around. So much for the pep talk! Hah!
Right now, the pasture--which is about 2 1/2 acres, is nothing but a bunch of weeds. But, Kent asked George to cut them down.
Well, you can see that this was one messy job! It took about a day and a half to accomplish it--and at the end of the days, he was filthy!!!
And there were gopher holes everywhere! Definitely that problem needs to be taken care of!
View from the pasture of Kent and Natalie's home with the pool behind it--and the barn to the right. It is all going to be so nice when it all is finished.
And talking about finished--this is what George looked like after he finished mowing the pasture! (He was definitely worried whether I could get his dearly beloved Florida shirt clean!)

Yes, our lives are much different than when we lived in Florida, but we are enjoying the new changes--and especially being closer to family!
Etc, etc.
When we were on our Antarctica Cruise, we stopped at this small post office in the Tierra del Fuego Park outside Ushuaia, Argentina. It is the furthest southern post office in the world! You can see it in the picture at the bottom of the card. The tiny post office sits on a dock and is run by this kindly little gentleman who has been the only one there to run it for years.
The top part of the card shows the Tierra del Fuego Park where we hiked a little ways with our group! Can't even describe how beautiful it was there!

Anyway, the postcard only took 31 days to get to my house, but at least it got there--just say 'in!

Our visit to Peru will always be so special to us--especially when I see this authentic Peruvian costume that George and I picked up at the market in Cusco. I love the bright colors! Each different state has an identifying hat, we learned. Anyway, I had Natalie model it--which she was a good sport and did.
Well, that's a wrap for March and April--except for my dad's 93rd birthday week! That will be saved for the next blog!
