June 2017 Events - Utah, Kim's BD, 49th Wedding Anniversary, and Tyson's Eagle Scout

After spending five days in Idaho with my dad and siblings, I was now able to spend five days in Utah helping out with Kevin and Angie's family.  I had such a great time!
I am always amazed at the beautiful sight I see when I step out on Kevin and Angie's balcony.  The mountains are amazing all around you with snow still on the tops of many of them.

Brady, Hannah, and I headed for the Utah Aquarium the first day I was there.  It was amazing!  I was visualizing a tank of water with some fish inside--boy was I underestimating this fantastic place!

Ripsaw catfish and very unique stingrays!

Notice the bright yellow frogs!

Fantastic day at the aquarium.  I want to go again!
Another day, Lauren and Jenna joined Kim and me as we went downtown to the Church History Museum.
We were so fortunate to have my sister, Joyce who is a docent at the museum, give us a personal tour.  She is fantastic and told so many wonderful facts and experiences of Joseph Smith and the early Mormons that are displayed in the museum.

This was really fun.  We saw a short film about the organizing of the Relief Society--the largest woman's organization in the world.  The girl in blue is played by Kat Bennett, a very good friend of Kyle and Kim's family.

The museum takes you through the years of Joseph Smith's first prayer, when he asks for answers of the Lord which church to join, and is given the answer that he will be the instrument in restoring the same church that existed in the primitive days that was taken from the earth because of wickedness.  Later, after restoring the keys back to the earth, because he would not deny his testimony, he was killed by an angry mob with blackened faces while he was in a jail cell in Carthage, Illinois.  This is the original death mask of Joseph Smith.
His brother Hyrum was, also, killed that day in Carthage.  His death mask shows where a bullet entered his face right beside his nose.
The painting shows the four men--Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, Wilford Woodruff, and John Taylor, trying to push back the guns that were stuck through the jail door.  In order to try to save the life of the others, Joseph jumped out of the second story window, but was killed by bullet wounds even before he hit the ground.
You can't help but feel the chaos that must have happened that night when those cowardly men attacked innocent men.  You can still see the gunshot holes in the clothes of Hyrum Smith.  Joseph and Hyrum were both martyrs because of their testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ being restored once again to the earth.
I love the statement that is above our current prophet:  "The Heavens Remain Open."  We are in need of divine help today as much as any time on earth.  We are so fortunate to have a prophet today to guide us our lives in these troubled times.

Lauren was especially interested in the manger (creche) scene from Ecuador.  Her brother, Kade, will be spending the next two years of his life in Ecuador, teaching and serving the people there on a Mormon mission.
This was so beautiful--all entirely carved out of wood.  The Sacrament.
There was a hands-on area of the museum where the kids learned lots of new talents--like these origami doves that Jenna and Lauren made.

After finishing with our tour of the museum, we walked through Temple Square, the Joseph Smith Building, then went to lunch at the Lion House.  There is no place better to eat real home-cooked food than the Lion House.  It was delicious!  Afterwards, we took in a little shopping at City Creek Mall.
The Salt Lake Mormon Temple

Such a great day with these four:  Hannah, Jenna, Lauren, and Brady
On Saturday, Cedar Hills had their community parade.  It was perfect weather for watching a parade.
Even Harley got to come along!
I always get a lump in my throat when the Stars and Stripes pass by in a parade, and we stand and put our hands on our hearts.

We saw lots of fun exhibits, floats, and displays, but definitely the most fun was when the Lone Peak High School cheerleaders came by and we got to see my granddaughter, Jenna, who is a cheerleader for Lone Peak!

On another evening, several of us went to TopGolf for my daughter-in-law, Kim's birthday

We had such fun!

Sitting there watching everyone try to get the most points, along with eating some really yummy food is just the best!

On Sunday evening, we had a yummy BBQ at Kyle and Kim's home.  We had a big celebration for Kim's birthday--complete with all 43 candles!

I snapped this pic of Brady before I left.  He is such a nice young man who absolutely loves LeBron James and really wants the Cavaliers to win the National Championship again this year.

After watching the Warrior-Cavs game, we all got into several cars and went over to visit our oldest grandson, Taylor and his wife, Ellie's new home.  They will be moving in this beautiful home in about a week.

It is such a great place, and I'm so proud of these two, who for the last four years have been saving and working so hard to make this happen.

These last five days really sped by, and it was now time to go home.  I flew home on my 49th wedding anniversary!

Forty-nine years ago, I married my best friend!  Although we don't quite look like this today (Hah!), life's lesson and family help shape the real people you are and draw you closer.

To celebrate our anniversary, George took me to one of my favorite restaurants--Olive Garden.  Kent and Natalie went along with us--we had a great time!
Another very special event that happened this month was that our seventh grandson received his Eagle Award--Tyson George Wilde!  We are so proud of him finishing all his requirements and receiving this great award.

Tyson has such wonderful supportive parents, and I applaud them, too.

Very busy and great month!
