Antarctic Cruise - February 10 - February 12, 2016 Arrival in Buenos Aries

Little did I believe that I would ever be going to the Antarctica, but when a chance came available with our favorite traveling planners, "Cruise Directors," and we were able to go along with Doug and Joyce (my sister), we said, "Count Us In!"

The three-week adventure began on February 10, 2016, when we flew from Pasco, Washington, to Salt Lake City where we spent the night at Doug and Joyce's home--they always make you feel so welcome!  After a dinner at Sizzler, we practiced with our selfie sticks that we both had just obtained--and laughed because we definitely weren't very good at it--and hardly even used on the entire trip, by the way.  But we had fun trying!

The next morning, February 11, we flew from Salt Lake City on Delta to Los Angeles and met Joyce and Doug there who had flown on Southwest.  Here is George in the LAX Airport.  We then all boarded a brand new LAN plane from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires, Argentina, after a stopover in Lima, Peru, and a change of planes in Santiago, Chili.  We arrived in Buenos Aires at 10:30 a.m. the next day (Feb. 12)
Our Cruise Director, Pam and her husband Dan, met us in the airport where we gathered all our luggage and transferred to our hotel.  Along the way, we just happened to look out our window and see the Buenos Aires MormonTemple.  It was truly a beautiful site to see!
I loved seeing the remembrances of Eva Peron throughout the city.  She was the second wife of Argentine President Juan Peron and  served as the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952.
We, also, passed the Obelisk of Buenos Aires, a national historic monument, erected in 1936 to commemorate the fourth century since the founding of the city.

We stayed in the Plaza Hotel, a 106-year-old hotel that was truly in the heart of the city.
It was nice to relax after being without sleep for a full day and hardly any sleep that night.  Joyce and I walked down Florida Street to Galleria Pacifica to exchange dollars for some pesos.
 Walking down Florida Street.

 Galleria Pacifica -
This was actually the ceiling of the inside of the mall where we went--absolutely beautiful!

We just ate at a McDonald's that night--nothing special.  We were all just anxious to have some uninterrupted sleep and couldn't wait to really start our adventures the next day!
