Three Weeks in Utah

Yes, I was able to spend three weeks in Utah to help out a little there while both Kyle and Kim and Kevin and Angie spent a week in Hawaii--both couples on separate weeks so that I was able to spend time with the grand kids while they were gone.  Some of the activities I was able to enjoy were:
I'm starting with Harley--such a sweet little dog that Kyle and Kim's family loves so much.  It is so sad to say that he suffers from seizures that I hadn't ever seen until Christmas Eve.  He has to have immediate attention that the whole family goes into action to give him.  For that reason, while I was tending the kids for a week, Kyle and Kim took him to Kim's parents to watch since they had been around him more and knew how to handle the situation.  I was certainly relieved although I truly love this little dog.
I loved going to Brady's practices and basketball games.  I became his personal statistician, and we would go over them after each game!  He is playing so well, and I'm so proud of how hard he is working!

I, also, got to see a couple of Kade's Junior Jazz basketball games--seriously the zaniest games I've ever seen.  I think their team is trying to be the next Harlem Globetrotters.
You never know what they are going to do next!
They definitely don't take it seriously, but the amazing thing is--they keep on winning and they're having a great time doing it!
Kade is such a fun kid!
On my niece, Camille's birthday, several of us got together for lunch where we literally "Talked until we dropped!"  Hah!  In the picture above:  Kim (daughter-in-law); Natalie, sister; Joyce, sister; Camille, niece; me; Jennifer, niece; and Angie (daughter-in-law).  So much fun!
With two of our sons living in the Alpine area, we pass the cemetery quite often where our little grandson is buried.  Every time we visit, there seems to be such a peaceful feeling there.  It's hard not to still get teary-eyed as we miss him so much.
I told Natalie I consider Cannon as our third missionary out right now--he is just doing his missionary work in the Spirit World.  But as Natalie reminded me, he's been gone a little over two years and we just wish he was coming home now.

When George got back out to Utah, he, also, wanted to visit Cannon's grave.  The copper on his name is, of course, always a reminder of why he died--with a disease called Menkes, which is when the body doesn't produce copper that is needed for all the muscles in the body--including your heart and lungs.
Kade's 17th Birthday just happened to be while I was in Utah.  He chose to go to a Japanese restaurant while we were there.
Kade's cousin, Bracken, who is attending BYU, also joined us for such a fun evening in celebration of Kade's birthday.  Lauren was at dance lessons, so she was unable to join us.

After dinner, we went back to Kevin and Angie's home and had a delicious homemade birthday cake with Kade's friends, including his cousin, Carter.

It was such a fun evening and great birthday!
One Friday, I was privileged to go on a personal two-hour tour of the Church History Museum where my sister is a docent.  It took us that long to just go through the main floor where the entire floor is devoted to the Prophet Joseph Smith.  Absolutely a must for everyone to see!  It takes you from where Joseph had his vision in the Sacred Grove to where he was martyred in the Carthage Jail.  So much information through original artifacts and displays.  I loved it!
After eating a delicious lunch  at the Joseph Smith Building, we headed over to the Hale Center Theater for a hilarious play called "Beau Jest!"  We laughed so hard--it was great!  Thanks, Joyce, for all you did to make such a pleasant sister experience that I will long remember!
One Sunday, we were able to hear Bracken report his Mormon mission to Australia Sydney North.  I just can't get enough of listening to him talk about the wonderful experiences he had with the people there in Australia, and hear his beautiful testimony given in English and, also, in Chinese.  Standing beside Bracken is a young lady (Sammy) who was also on a mission to Australia at the same time as Bracken was.  They are both attending BYU at the present time.  Kyle and Kim had already left by the time Kevin took this picture.
Later in the day, Bracken and Sammy joined us for dinner at Kyle and Kim's home.
On another evening, Angie hosted a wedding shower for two of her friends who had children marrying each other!  It was such a fun evening.

This is Diane with her daughter Kate, the bride, who will be marrying Tyler, son of Kim.  The couple getting married have known each other for years and even were on their missions together  in the Paris, France Mission.

Here is Kate with her sister--Abbie.
And here is Kate with her new sister-in-law to be--Izzy!
It was such a fun shower that Angie had worked so hard to make so perfect!

Now, I need to talk about Koda.  He is such a sweet little dog, too.  I doubt he even weighs three pounds!  He truly loves his daddy--Kevin, so whenever I was in Kevin's office working on the computer, here would come Koda to sit on my lap just like he does on Kevin's.
Another wonderful experience I had while in Utah was attending the open house of the Provo City Center Mormon Temple.  It has been absolutely fascinating to follow how this all took place.  After the Church’s 112-year-old Provo Tabernacle had been burned in December 2010 and only the shell of the building was left, everyone was devastated thinking this historic building was lost.

However, the Church leaders decided to use the building's exterior to house the temple.  It is just a miracle how the exterior was lifted up on stilts while the work took place below and inside to make this amazing edifice to the Lord.

The temple today!  Before a temple is dedicated, an open house is held for a few weeks so that those wanting to see inside may do so.  After it is dedicated, only worthy members may enter.
Bracken joined us at the open house.  It was so fun to see him as often as we could before we had to go back home.  After all, we haven't seen him for two years while he has been in Australia on his mission!

Hannah and Brady, also, went with us.  Kevin and Angie were in Hawaii at this time.

This picture was taken in the foyer where you were allowed to take pictures.  The inside can be seen online at:

Our son, Kyle, daughter-in-law Kim, and grandson, Brady.  What a wonderful experience this was to spend time in this beautiful temple with some of our loved ones.  That's what the temple is all about--uniting families for eternity!
I, also, got to be there when Kade left for the Preference Dance.  He looked so handsome!  It certainly brought me back to the days when our five boys were off to the dances--I always cried!

Although I'm not a fan of getting out in the snow, I love seeing it from inside.  One day as we were riding over the pass between Draper and Alpine, we saw this most amazing scene.  With the snow-covered mountains and blanket of fog and snow, it truly looked like a heavenly scene!
I, also, loved going out on Kevin and Angie's deck to look over the snowy roofs below.
One night, George and I had such an enjoyable evening going to the Marriott Center to attend a BYU basketball game.  It brought back so many pleasant memories through the years.
What made it even more fun was that we were with two of our grandsons:  Taylor and Brady.
Another evening, I got to attend a Lone Peak High School basketball game at Utah Valley University and watch our grand daughter, Lauren, perform at half time.  (She is the beautiful girl center front with the long brown pony tail.)

Lone Peak won that night.  This is Lauren with her friend who is the starting guard for Lone Peak as a freshman.  He played fantastically!
This game happened right after we returned home, but I had to include it.  This was a televised Lone Peak High School game on ESPN.  Our grandson, Kade, who is in the maroon jersey, front row, looking forward, got those seats by lining up for six hours beginning right after school.  He even had food to feed his friends around him!
You can certainly see the passion of the Lone Peak students for their team!
But certainly one of the biggest and craziest fans is Kade--far left.  Watch his facial expressions!  I was taking these off the television because it was always panning over to these kids!
And hopefully you can see this video.  You will be amazed at Kade's dancing skills!  Hah!  So much fun!  And of course, Lone Peak won!

Pictures after the game:  Our grand daughter Lauren; her friend, Izzy, and our daughter-in-law, Angie

And Lauren with the Ashworth boy who played outstandingly again, along with the number one fan--Kade!

As you can see, I spent a wonderful three weeks in Utah.  George was able to be there for about ten days of the three weeks.  As we boarded the plane for Washington, I realized that I hadn't been home for 4 1/2 months.  I began this journey in September wearing capris, a short-sleeved blouse, and sandals, and was now wearing boots, long-sleeved pants, a sweater, as well as a heavy coat!  Yes, I was able to buy some new clothes through this process, which I didn't complain about!
Thanks to those living in Utah!  I had so many great times that I will always remember!
