Nine Days in Utah
Kyle and Kim had a convention for Kyle's work in Hawaii, so I went to "tend" their two kids in Utah while they were gone. (Their oldest child, Carter, is on his Mormon mission in Scotland at this time.) Brady is such a nice young man who always works hard to do everything that needs to be done--finishing his homework, being on time to everything, working hard at his basketball skills, helping clean up the house, or fulfilling his church assignments. Seriously, such a great kid. While I was there, I was able to watch him play a game for his Jr. Jazz team. Here Brady, on the left, is with one of his team mates.
The other grand child I "tended" was Jenna (the grand daughter on the right who is with another grand daughter, Lauren, on the left.) They both lead very busy lives. Jenna is a cheerleader on her high school cheer leading squad and Lauren is a dancer. Jenna's cheer leading team was getting ready for a competition, so she was gone a great deal of time while I was there. However, the worst happened the night before the competition. While they were making pyramids, Jenna was on the base and one of the team members fell right on Jenna's head knocking her head into the floor. We later found out that had received a concussion! So sad! She really had to limit her activities
While I was in Utah, I was able to visit my sister, Joyce, who had just had a knee replacement surgery three weeks before. She is still in pain, but works so hard doing her physical therapy in order to get feeling well again.
One night, while I was in Utah, it was amazing to see the sky turn this beautiful pink color reflecting from the clouds and snow. I don't think I had ever seen this before! I really enjoyed my stay for the week and was glad that Kyle and Kim had such a great time in Hawaii!
Back in Washington
After returning home, George and I were watching the Jazz play the Cavs. It was so fun seeing our two sons who had taken their two sons to see the game. In the top pic is Kevin with our grandson Kade, and in the bottom is Kyle with our grandson Brady. Brady loves the Jazz, but he loves the Cavs more because he is a LeBron fan and has been so for years no matter what team he is on! Happily for everyone but Brady, the Jazz beat the Cavs 100-92.
January Copeland Family Birthdays
Our son, Cameron. His smile through the years has always lit up a room with his fun sense of humor, quick wit, and caring attitude. He has such a tender heart and is a great peacekeeper! He is a great dad to his four kids and is a wonderful husband. We surely do LOVE Cameron.
Riley is such a bright young man who loves to read and learn. His favorite sport is soccer, but he also plays baseball and basketball. He has a very caring heart and is such an obedient young man. We surely love our Riley Boy!
To Dallas to Take Care of Three Grandchildren There
Craig called me a few days after I had just returned from Utah and asked if I could come to Dallas to tend our three grandchildren there. They had gotten tickets to the Jimmy Kimmel show and wanted a little get-away, so about four days after Craig called, I was off to Dallas. George stayed and did his accounting work while I was gone.
Dawson doesn't talk much yet, but he understands everything!
It was such nice weather, and we got to play outside on the playground. Kennedy learned to go clear across the monkey bars all by herself! She was so proud--and we were so proud of her!
While I was in Dallas, I got to watch lots of ballgames--which I LOVE to do. On a Saturday, I got to watch four games in one day--from 11:00 in the morning to 9:00 p.m. This is my idea of a perfect day! Reminded me when all five of our sons were playing two or three sports at once and the two daughters were performing on their drill teams during half times! So many good memories!
It was so fun to watch Gavin (Cameron and Anne's son) and Riley (Craig and Cassie's son) play on the same basketball team. Craig is the coach, but since he was out of town, Cameron coached for him. As a matter of fact, Cameron coached four games that day!
Mason and his dad, Cameron. This third grade team is really a fantastic, scrappy little team!
Jaxon was really tearing up the floor, playing so well, when he got three teeth knocked completely down on his game by being inadvertently elbowed. Thank goodness he had braces to hold them in! He needs to get a Steph Curry mouth guard, right?!
I was totally exhausted at the end of the day, but loved those few days I spent in Dallas helping out with the grand kids!
Lots of Snow!
And this is what I came back to! We have had snow for over three weeks now! And coming to a place that only has snow a couple of days a year prior to this for the past 50 years, this has really been a shock to George and me after moving from Florida!
We are both pretty much sick of snow!
So what do you do when you are "sick and tired" of snow and cold? You go to a Japanese Steakhouse with some pretty great people and have some pretty great food!
This was just what the doctor ordered! (JK about being sick--just tired! Hah!)
My Dad Dislocates his Shoulder
One last post that is not a happy post, but nevertheless I wanted to blog about. My dad who is nearly 94 years old was trying to answer his phone on a Sunday morning, leaned over his bed stand to reach for the phone, fell out of bed right on his shoulder which popped it out of place.
My siblings and their spouses took him to the emergency entrance of the hospital where the doctor gave him pain killers and was able to put his shoulder back in place.
Thank goodness it wasn't broken, but it has been sore ever since. I always hate to see people hurt, but hopefully he will be feeling better soon.
Well, that's a wrap for January Journeys! Right now, I think I will be home for most of the month of February and perhaps I can get back to unpacking more boxes and have my garage completely cleaned out! That would be very boring, but I would love to get it done!

You had quite the busy month, Laura!! I'm sure you are grateful you are retired so that you can visit and help out with grandchildren, even at the last minute. You're so dedicated at whatever you do and aren't afraid of hard work. Good luck going through your boxes.
