Cannon is our Sunshine!

Cannon is our little sunshine grand baby who was born with Menkes, a rare X-Chromosome disorder.  March 1st was his first birthday.  We are so grateful that he was born into our family because he has taught us all so much.  There isn't a home of the Copeland families that doesn't offer a prayer morning, noon, and night, without mentioning Cannon.  Although he can't move basically anything but his head from side to side, his smile lights every day you see him, just like the warming sun.

His family had a huge birthday party for him in Washington, but Grandpa George and I were unable to attend.  However, we wanted to hold a party for Cannon here in Florida, so we did.  I hope his dad and mom will show him the pictures and read about what we did to help make him feel so special for his special day.

After eating dinner together at Jeff and Amy's home, we all went outside to get ready for releasing our balloons as a special significance of how we know someday he will have the freedom to move again, too.  Just as we were starting the little "ceremony," the four Canadian geese that live in the area came flying in formation right across our head, squawking loudly.  We were so amazed!  It was perfect timing--just like the Blue Angels flying before a special event!

Riley has been staying with us while his daddy and mommy are on a cruise.  He had a great time at the party!

We all had a little family meeting where we talked about how special Baby Cannon is and how much we love him.

After talking about the significance of the freedom of the balloons and the way little Cannon has no freedom at this time, but that someday he would . . . we all let our balloons go.

Candy Baker has been staying with us this week to help out with Riley while I am in school during the day.  He loves her like another grandma just like the other grandkids have learned to love her!

We then went inside for birthday cake which everyone really enjoyed.

Of course, Grandpa George loved the cake--and the ice cream!

Riley certainly enjoyed the cake--and especially the icing!

All in all, it was truly a beautiful evening.  We love you so much, little Cannon.  May you know how much you have taught us about what is most important in life.  Happy Birthday!

It is a good thing I don't have my make-up on yet because this brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful, supporting family you are. And such a nice idea.

That really did touch my heart, also! What a wonderful idea to celebrate Cannon's birthday in Florida since you couldn't attend in person!!! Your family has been so supportive of each other in all the challenges (and joys) that life brings.

I just marvel at how you and George are part of your kids' lives even though they are the entire width of the U.S. from you. That was the sweetest thing to do for little Cannon. Kent and Natalie are truly fortunate to have such loving support from the Copeland family.
The Canadian geese salute was amazing and tell Amy that her painted board was inspiring.
