Mediterranean Cruise - October-November 2011

People have finally quit asking about pictures of our cruise back in October, but we are finally getting it posted.  Daily, for the next two weeks, I will be posting one of the most fantastic travel experiences George and I have ever had--going on a 12-night Mediterranean cruise with my sister Joyce and brother-in-law, Doug.  We had originally planned to go to Israel and Egypt, but with so much unrest in Egypt, we opted to do the Mediterranean cruise instead, and certainly couldn't have been happier with the results.  After meeting Doug and Joyce in Atlanta, our first stop was Barcelona, Spain.

No one goes to Barcelona without noticing the unique architecture of Antonio Gaudi, whose influence is basically everywhere in the city.  He has been noted as the most famous architect of the 20th century.  From the very beginning, his designs were different from those of his contemporaries.  He was greatly influenced by forms of nature and this can be seen in the interesting shaped metal and stonework he has done and for his vibrant colors.

The first place we had a chance to really observe his work was Guell Park, entirely designed and built by Gaudi as a home for the aristocracy of the city.  Seriously, how does one's mind think of the unique designs of everything that was in that park--even how he placed every plant?  Unbelievable!

Anyway, my sister Joyce is really a fantastic historian--she doesn't leave out one detail.  She has spent hours researching every place we went.  Therefore, she kindly is allowing us to link to her website each day to see all the pictures she and I both took, plus the beautiful narrative she provided.  Thanks so much, Joyce!
